We recently set Fran up with a blog of his own. It’s funny – a sixty-something year-old man telling his friends about his blog has to make you laugh. I really admire him doing it, though. The man has a lot of wisdom and a lot of stories to tell. We joke about having him write it for a few years (if we can keep him from getting bored with it) so that we can turn it into a book for his family, but that could very well become a reality.

One older gentleman who paved the way for Fran being comfortable with it is Bill Marriott,the CEO of Marriott Hotels. It got me thinking about how many other older, wiser (and possibly famous) bloggers are out there. You’d think there would be some kind of webring out there for this. These are some blogs that I found, though many turned out not to be that old or wise:

Curt Shilling, Donald Trump, Mark Cuban, Bill Maher, Alec Baldwin, Brian Williams, Tommy Lasorda, William Shatner, Wil Wheaton, Rosanne Barr, Tyra Banks, Barbra Streisand, Michael Moore, Gene Simmons, Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, MC Hammer, Tom Green, and of course Al Roker!

One website I’ve been addicted to is that of ChangeThis, fueling a steady stream of inspiration from authors who [seem to] know what they’re talking about. They are packaged in simple, beautifully-designed PDFs that make the reading enjoyable and suprisingly easy to consume, because they’re not long; they’re just long enough.

Take your house public?

A very enlightening read by Cuban.

If I understand his idea correctly, I believe that there are some houses that, when after 40% of the shares are sold, could still find a way to foreclose, leaving the shareholders without any leverage to claim their dues – just as if a company went under. What would be in place to prevent that?

I think it’s a great idea though, but still think by nature, many of the people forced to foreclosure don’t even have shareholders available to them, or are going to foreclose regardless if they get help or not, because of personal inabilities – much more common in the housing market than the business market.

Who is Johnny Five?

Through high school (and beyond) I have answered to the nickname Five. Initially because I hated the typical familiarity of John, and the name also kind of stuck. I always thought it was funny when people would ask me how “Johnny Five” came about. If only Short Circuit wasn’t the second best freakin’ robot movie of the eighties!? (Behind Robocop, and ahead of Batteries Not Included, of course.)

Today, the original robot goes on sale for no less than a hundred grand. Better yet, I would rather have this guy sitting in the entrance of my living room with a crooked red eye, talking backwards, than the gun-wielding Robocop or a metal gnat.

Photoshoppin’

I learned photoshop, believe it or not, while I was “working” at my mother’s tanning salon in high school. I knew I wanted to pursue some area of design, but I was also just having fun. Now, most of the things I do in photoshop are specific, structured, and lack humor. When things are winding down, and I’m relaxed, I have a ‘thing’ with making fun of people.

Although, they’re probably only really funny if you know ‘em. This page demonstrates my need to have them all on one page for easy reference, and will likely continue to grow.
