If you haven’t heard about the little company named Eolas that won 500M from Microsoft, click that link and you can. It doesn’t matter what they won, but rather how the ruling will change technology. Eolas patented the way we we embed things on a website, as if you could patent the way I eat my cinnamon toast, or even the way I tie my shoes. Everybody on a PC now has to click the parts of a website that are in flash to get rid of a dotted border and then it resumes like normal. Why it only affects those on a PC, I’m not sure, but I’m going to have to go through almost forty websites to create a jerry-rigged workaround, and I can’t really charge for that. Where have I been? Sly move, Eolas! 1 response, below.
